What are the operating principles of the components of the waterjet cutting machine?

A complete set of CNC waterjet cutting machine (also referred to as waterjet) is composed of three parts: an ultra-high pressure water jet generator (high pressure pump), two CNC machining platforms, and three jet cutting heads. Below, the editor will introduce the three major components of the waterjet cutting machine with complete categories and the operating principles of the three major components.

1. Ultra-high pressure water jet generator (high pressure pump)
The ultra-high pressure water jet generator is very important as the power source of the waterjet cutting machine. The most common high-pressure pump is the technical solution of ultra-high pressure water jet generated by a hydraulic motor driving a supercharger. It can instantly increase the pressure of ordinary tap water to tens to hundreds of MPa (Note: 1 MPa is approximately equal to 10 bar). The water stream can be ejected through the beam nozzle and has extremely high kinetic energy.

2. CNC machining platform
The numerical control waterjet cutting machine is mainly used for cutting flat plates. The cutting platform will use rolling linear guides and ball screws as its transmission. Under the precise control of the numerical control program and the control motor, the X-axis and Y-axis can be precisely moved individually or in two-axis linkage. It can drive the cutting head to cut straight lines and arbitrary curves.

3. Jet cutting head
The ultra-high pressure water jet generator can realize the cutting function only when it passes through the beam nozzle. The size of the nozzle aperture can determine the level of pressure and the size of the flow. At the same time, the nozzle also has the effect of gathering energy. Jet cutting heads can have two forms: one is to complete cutting with pure water, and the other is to cut with abrasives. The cutting head that contains abrasives for cutting is composed of pure water as the cutting head, and then an abrasive mixing cavity and a hard nozzle are added to the water.
